Mike Hlinak leads inVentiv Clinical's management team, a team composed of best-of-class industry professionals with the skills and experience to lead the organization to each of its goals and objectives.

Michael Hlinak has more than 20 years of financial and operations management experience in both publicly and privately owned organizations, including staffing, telecommunications, real estate development, and management, retail, and medical. As President and CEO of inVentiv Clinical Solutions, he leads the clinical development outsourced services business (inVentiv Clinical Solutions) as well as the clinical staffing groups (MedFocus and Smith Hanley Consulting Group).

Mr. Hlinak took the reins of inVentiv Clinical Solutions after inVentiv Health's acquisition of Smith Hanley, an industry leading permanent executive placement and contract staffing firm. At Smith Hanley, he held the position of CFO, overseeing all financial aspects of the business and responsible for pursuing corporate development opportunities. Before Smith Hanley, Mr. Hlinak held senior financial positions at Work International Corporation, Equal Net and Cardinal Interests.

Mr. Hlinak received a B.S. in Business Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and completed MBA coursework at the University of Houston. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas.

Thomas A. Hanley, Jr.

Thomas Hanley leads the permanent placement business, Smith Hanley Associates, within the inVentiv Clinical division of inVentiv Health.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Hanley was President and CEO of the Smith Hanley Companies, which was acquired by inVentiv Health in October 2004. He co-founded Smith Hanley Associates, Inc., in 1980, developed the firm's Consulting Group in 1995, and acquired MedFocus in 2000. The client base for these firms includes the top pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms in the United States.

Mr. Hanley received a B.S. in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and completed the course work for an M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Concurrent with the creation of Smith Hanley, he attended New York Law School, graduating cum laude with his J.D. degree.

Gerald M. Kappes, CPA

Chief Financial Officer
inVentiv Clinical Solutions

Gerald Kappes brings more than 15 years of experience in accounting and finance to inVentiv Clinical Solutions. He is responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial management for the company.

Prior to joining inVentiv Clinical, Mr. Kappes was a Sr. Accountant at Reliant Energy, Inc., a publicly traded energy company, where he was responsible for handling all financial reporting matters. Previously, he was Controller for WorldByNet.com, a start-up Internet company, where he was responsible for developing the accounting team and all accounting processes, including the accounting system conversion and the implementation of an e-commerce platform. Mr. Kappes was also the Controller for EqualNet Communications Corporation, a publicly traded telecommunications company.

Mr. Kappes received his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and is a licensed CPA in the state of Texas.

Stephen O. Cottrell

Executive Vice President,
Operations and Business Development

Stephen Cottrell brings almost 20 years of industry experience to inVentiv Clinical Solutions. In his role as Executive Vice President of Operations and Business Development, he is responsible for leading marketing and business development efforts for all clinical divisions to drive revenue growth for the company.

Prior to rejoining the inVentiv family, Mr. Cottrell served as Executive Vice President and then President of AAI Development Services, where he led a midsized CRO providing services from late-stage discovery through Phase IV to North America, Western Europe, and Japan. He also served as Executive Vice President of EduNeering Holdings, Inc., where he led the sales and marketing efforts for a small venture-funded company providing online training services focused on clinical development within the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries.

Mr. Cottrell holds a B.S. in Economics from Boston University.

Scott Treiber, PhD, MBA

Executive Vice President,

Dr. Scott Treiber has more than 20 years experience in the clinical and medical research industries with a strong background in contract research organizations. He is currently responsible for the oversight of all aspects of clinical monitoring and project management at inVentiv Clinical Solutions, including executive project oversight and client interaction.

Prior to joining inVentiv, Dr. Treiber held positions of increasing responsibility in reputed contract clinical research organizations such as Quintiles, ICON and Premier Research. Most recently, he was Vice President of Clinical Research for PharmaNet, with overall responsibility for the Neuroscience, Cardiovascular/General Medicine, Ophthalmology and Dermatology therapeutic divisions.

Dr. Treiber received his PhD in Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and his MBA from Ellis College of the New York Institute of Technology. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Iowa. Dr. Treiber is also published in a number of journals for his research on sleep disorders.
